Back when I was working a stint in telephone tech support, I had one caller who had lost some email. She was very upset, since this email contained months of genealogical research, none of it having been backed up. I tried to explain to her that the email was basically lost (I don't recall the technical situation, but I think it had been removed from our servers when she erased her email box, or something of the sort).
