Palm trees, and the other icons of tropical life, all tiki-ness, are incredibly cliched. Not only has the novelty worn off and they became a cliche, but their use as ironically cliched has be come cliched, and even the post-ironic, return to innocently un-cliched-ness has become cliched. They are the post-modern Ur-cliche from which all banality springs. Every time I see a palm tree, I am physically, forcefully repulsed by the degree of banality.
[I call them Banali-trees.]
Which is a problematic irony now that I see them everywhere, every day, because I am in their original habitat.
Curse you, Irony God!

Does that mean you're in
Does that mean you're in Hawaii? Or is palm tree+Hawaii an even bigger cliche?
I am in Hawaii. I am the
I am in Hawaii. I am the only person who flew to Hawaii who wasn't really interested in going there. It's a giant cliche! I think they really just took me to a remote part of California. There is no Hawaii. It's a giant prank, and the rest of the world hasn't figured it out yet.
Surfs up?
Surfs up?
Hahaha can you imagine John
Hahaha can you imagine John on a surf board riding the waves? *looking unmockingly* Surely there must be something Hawaiian about Hawaii?
