Jenny's blog

The Expat Life

I have been in China for almost 6 months now. I have made a few tiny trips out of town but in general I have been passing the days in Beijing. In summary I have to say I am loving it. Although I am never *strike* not always happy to go to work at 7.30 in the morning, I feel intensely happy and lucky every evening when I am on my way home for a relaxing evening or prepping up for a hang-out with friends.

Why Jenny should not join the Stripper Pole Chinese Red Army

Jenny doesn’t use pole-shaped objects for stripping.

Jenny will bitch-slap every person trying to put money in her panties.

Jenny already donated her army gear to the Stripper Pole Korean Kimchi Army.

Jenny does not like the colour Red.

Jenny is not really Chinese.

Jenny is still from the block and keeping it real.

Jenny is not Jenny’s real name.

Jenny has lesbian tendencies.

Jenny enjoys eating icecream and chocolate, not hanging up side down on a stick.

Mostly though: 남자는 다 되지야!

Chinese Racism vs. Ignorance

I went out shopping with my Canadian friend the other day at 西直门(Xi Zhi Men). Important to note here is that my Canadian friend is black.

What’s the big deal about them Lao Wais??!!

It is Tuesday night and my phone rings at bloody 4 am in the morning. My colleague – semi-drunk – on the other side of the phone is surprised that I am asleep. Whatever dude, just get to the point. Crazy semi-drunk colleague was having a drink (or hundred) with three of his Chinese amigas and they thought it would be an excellent idea to wake me up and ask me whether I could hook his three friends up with any of my lao wai friends.
