Hot as...

BALLS! It is hot as balls here right now. I thought the last two weeks of July were bad? No way. It is so humid here that nothing in my apartment is dry and I am sure I have eaten a few more fruit flies than I would care to admit. To top it off, the majority of Korean apartments have a washing machine, but most Koreans have never even heard of a dryer before so I can never get my clothes completely dry and not smelling a hint moldy. This only acts as a sweet garnish to my melancholic mood as of late. As I mentioned before, a lot of my friends are leaving. It is really sad. I said farewell to my neighbor today and in another 2 weeks I will bid adieu to almost all of the international people I know here in Seoul. Kinda sucks.

But something happened the other day which brightened my mood.

I did absolutely nothing on Saturday and Sunday this weekend. All my plans fell through because of the weather or just the general malaise that has taken over everyone's brains during this hellish month. So, I watched Hot Fuzz (fucking awesome) and a Korean movie called "아 들" which might be spelled wrong but it means "My Son" (fucking sad), and a lot of TV(in fucking Korean). On Sunday I did an errand. I went to nearby 산본 (Sanbon) to buy some kitty litter for 영군. I knew it was going to rain but I didn't bring an umbrella. I thought it might be nice to walk in the rain (see aforementioned "general malaise"). Anyway, as I was waiting at a crosswalk in the rain (more of a light drizzle) with no umbrella, suddenly, I felt dry. I looked to my left and there was a woman standing purposefully close to me so that I could stand with her under her umbrella. To her left was her daughter who was standing under another absurdly huge umbrella held by her husband. They were all staring at me with the cutest grins on their faces. They were so happy to help me out! I walked with them for a couple hundred feet until our paths diverged. I have felt a lot happier since then. Even though my heart still breaks because so many awesome people are leaving, Korea is a good place to live, I think.
