Too Damn Late Theater

Why the HELL is there a road crew down the street working all night with noisy machinery?

Just a reminder about how awesome my girlfriend is

She came to visit Korea at the height of the mad-cow business here. She was well aware of the news, since she reads Korean news online, and she heard all of the propaganda points. She gave the whole thing less credence than I did, and we had several interesting conversations on where things went right and where things went wrong, both scientific and political.

But it's not surprising. She graduated with honors with BS Chemistry, BS Biochemistry, minor Quantitative Science from the UW, and is halfway to her DMD at Case Western.

Wherein I display my ignorance of North American pop culture

I just watched Soulja Boy's Instructional Dance Video, where up-and-coming Southern hip-hop artist Souja Boy Tellem teaches fans his particular dance routine.

I heard about Soulja Boy a couple of months ago from a Korean friend on 유학 (foreign exchange) but was more or less ignorant of the choreography.

Its just better to read the newspaper in your underwear . . .

Washington Post has an article on Japan's labor crisis and its reluctance to fill the gap with immigration or feminist empowerment.

Japan could probably also read "Korea", and maybe even "Taiwan".

Look, plagiarism!

Regarding the previous Indiana Jones post, a few passages of interest. From "Postmodernism and Consumer Society" by Fredric Jameson:

Whiny expat shit

Today was probably the closest I came to picking a fight since grade school.

Slutty Neighbor's current boyfriend was over and started a round of banging on the door and whining at her. I'd been out drinking with my friend and I was a bit buzzed. We arrived at the apartment building at about the same time, him clearly drunk. I bowed and said hello (in Korean), which he ignored. Keep in mind I'm at least five years older than him.

George Lucas is a cock-monger *SPOILERS*

I caught the new Indiana Jones movie last weekend. I was a little bit disappointed in it. It was Harrison Ford, there were chases, explosions, and casual one-liners . . . but in my opinion it lacked the fun that I usually associate with Indy Jones.

I should take a moment and point out that I'm not really a big fan of the franchise. By some bizarre generational time-space warp I never saw the original movies when I was a kid, unlike pretty much every other child of the Nintendo generation. In fact, I didn't see the first movie until I was in college.

Pens baby~!

Studying in Korea was the first time I had ever “tried” to be a student. Being a student in Asia, you become a big too comfortable with the amount of supplies you can find, likes notebooks and pens. While it is impossible for me to find a decent sized and reliable notebook here, I have finally found a source for those Asian multi-pens I love so much. They are a bit on the expensive side, ranging around 6-8 dollars a pen. However, even in Korea they were never cheap being 4000-5000 won. Anyways, back to my new found source for pens, http://www.jetpens.com/ is the place you want to go.

T.T

Sorry, I havn't been around. Been a bit busy..... Check it... Also got a new job at Infinite Energy Inc. Web Application Development. Super fun yet busy. Not like anyone cares but I also got President's List last semester. Meaning I got As in all 5 of my classes. I'll be on more laters~ When I start posting my Social Sci papers.

more anime nonsense

Toshokan Sensou: What if you crossed FARENHEIT 451 with FULL METAL PANIC? Obviously, awesomeness would result.

Better living through SCIENCE!

I found what I want for Christmas this year.

1 kg of pure caffeine.

Once the glee from this discovery began to fade and I started thinking about actual uses for the product, the first thing I came up with was to slip it into the water fountain at the hagwon. Sure, it would be a day of hell trying to manage classes . . . but watching them hit new levels of crazy would be funny enough to be worth it.
